CEL and Missing real bad

I was getting on the highway today and my car started missing and bucking real bad and the check engine light was blinking on and off. Car felt like it had no power, so I just drove it back home and parked it. The car is an 03 V8 with 69k miles on it. To avoid and added dealer costs, what could this be so I can go about fixing in my self?

Get the codes read for the CEL, a lot of auto parts franchises will read the codes for free.

Not sure where I heard this. It must have come from a mechanic but I do not remember who. A blinking CEL is very bad and the car should not be driven.

Correct terminology is "COP". Coil -On-Plug Glad to hear it was still under warranty...dealer installed would be closer to $200.00. I would pick up a few to have in case you need one (or two) while on the road. Email Max at Five Star Ford for better pricing. They are also avail in local auto parts stores....get your best deal. I'd also make sure it comes with the rubber boot too.

Well, come to find out since they were having so many problems with the cop's on the 03's, the warranty on them has been extended for 10yr/100k miles on the cop's, wires, and the valve cover gaskets. I'll been good for a little while longer if anymore go out.

hey Thanx I have the same problem on my LS V8 2000 100k
first i thing it was the transmission but after some review my told to me it should be a coil and you should to do a tune up

Your right, it is actually in the owners manual to not drive the car with a flashing CEL. A solid CEL it is still "okay".

The only thing I've seen a flashing CEL be is a cylinder misfire.....anything else that would cause a flashing CEL????

Oh, glad you figured your problem out and got it fixed under warranty. :)

Nice, fixed under warranty!! Sweet!

For Future reference....a BLINKING check engine light ALWAYS means your car is miss firing on one or more cylinders and will always be SPARK related.

I get the blinking CEL a lot on my S2, only because I use the rev limiter a lot, lol.
