i have seen many different chips available for the marks and was wondering whats the best to buy? i have a 98 lsc and am looking for better overall performance.

that looks like a good deal for what it does, forgive me for being a noob at this i understand how the plug in programmers work but the chips on the other hand how would that be put into the car?

You've got to pull the car's computer from under the steering column, do some preparatory work on it, plug in the chip, and reinstall the computer.

If you Mark isn't modified (too much) then a pre-programmed chip is a good bet. After modifying extensively, it's best to find a shop with a dyno and have one programmed for your car. You can expect to pay around $450.00 for this.. at least in my area. Ask around and see who's doing it in your area. The local Mustang club is a good way to find a reliable shop.

I've done it both ways and it's worked for me.

IMHO with an obd2 car the flash device is a better option.

the flash device also provides datalogging which is very important and often overlooked.

in my (eec iv) car my only option was a chip... and I quickly discovered that without the ability to datalog it made my car very hard to tune, and evaluate any problems with the car or the tune.

The only advantage a chip gives you is the ability to switch programs on the fly, which I dearly loved switching between my "mild to wild" tunes whenever I desired.

the drawback to the flash device is you cant "switch on the fly" you need to pull over, stop the car, turn it off.. flash the PCM..ect....

Now with that said.. you "could" get both, the flash device and a chip.

Flash a performance program to the PCM, then 4 custom tunes to the chip.. then you'd have the best of both worlds, for a pretty significant increase in cost.

If it were me, and I was in an "entry level" to getting my car tuned.

I would get a flash device (EXCAL 2) from Either Lonne at Blue Oval Chips or Torrie at Fast Parts Network as described above in this thread.

ONE thing to keep in mind.. is "a chip, or flasher" is only as good as the person writing the tune for the car, SCT, Diablo, Sniper, Tweecer (insert catchy tuner name here) doesnt really matter.

Yup...it's all about the tuner. The best ones will be the ones who own a heavily modded model similar to yours, do their own tuning, and show impressive track results.

Very true, but Lonnie wrote my program and I had no complaints. On the other hand, I never had the car dyno tuned or anything. Either way....if this person's car is stock, it doesn't need all the data logging, coffee making, foot massaging crap, lol. I HIGHLY recommend the chip. :D Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!
