I got a roll of 5/8" moulding for my car and I see that It will fit the channel that goes around my car but I need to fill in the channel so it will stick. The orginal moulding that I took off had a "backing" applied to it and I couldn't remove it to apply to the new moulding. What can I use to "fill" in this channel so I can use this 5/8" chrome moulding I have?

I'm guessing that the 5/8" moulding isn't the correct size? The old chrome trim should just peel off, you may have to scrape the sticky stuff off, but it should all come off without too much effort.

5/8" is the size of the "grove" all the way around my car. it's that the bottem of the channel is about 3/8" and I see that when i pulled the moulding off the rear bumper, there was "backing" on the moulding to fill in the space. I removed the door section and the "backing" stayed in place leaving me a clean finish to install to. So I wanted to know, what can I use to build up so I can apply this 5/8" moulding.

Not to be patronizing, but you could put 3/8" trim first, then put the 5/8" trim over it.

That's not patronizing, that's twice the expence. I sent the 3/8" trim back because it was much to "recesed" (spelling) in the channel. and was not the same width as the orginal moulding I was removing.
