Crack in Cover

I have a small hairline crack starting to form on the engine cover in engine bay the ones that are bolted to the top. I know they are for aesthetics but can they be repaired?

I'm kinda crazy when it comes to repairing things and tend to go a bit overboard. I would probably use the old one to make a mold then make a new one in fiberglass or carbon fiber. Now that I think about it I think I might make up a carbon fiber engine cover.
