this 98 town car i recently purchased is my daily driver.im just wondering with regular maintenance (whatever that is aside from oil/brakes/tires) how long i might be enjoying this car before its over the hill. its got 70,000 on it now and i drive about 26,000 a year.
im still looking into having a cd changer installed in the trunk so that i can still use the controls in the steering wheel for all the sonunds/radio/tape and the new cd.

RE: daily driver

if you take care of it, you should get well over 200k out of it. Of course you're likely to have to replace a few things here and there over time, but the 4.6's are very long-lasting motors, and '98 was the year Ford finally figured out how to build the 4R70W transmission properly.

dave thanks for the response. thats good news to hear. im not mechanically inclined and i just like lincolns,i like to drive them.im a musician and do alot of driving for work and this car really makes the drives way less tiring and even very enjoyable.plus when i pull up to a four seasons hotel or a resonable facsimile to do a gig the valets and all go scurrying to assist me and all then i just open the trunk and get my instruments out and say"im in the band"...and they relax.
when i get it together i'll hook up a picture of my towncar.its sweet white with white leather seats and very clean!
thanks again for your reply.

RE: daily driver

make sure oil is changed every 3k and tranny fluid is changed every 20k -- something goes wrong, fix it right away -- you should be fine -- its a great car, very durable - 200k is not uncommon to make - even 300k is possible - there was a 96 which just did 1 million KM -- so good care is crucial.

RE: daily driver

I agree.
I deal with a lot of airport limo companies and the Town Car is by far the first choice of vehicle. They're bulletproof if you stay on a good maintanence schedule. I regularly see Town Cars with 650,000 to 750,000 Kms. on them. I know of 5 that have passed the one million mark. It's not unusual to see 500,000 Kms on the factory 4.6 (mind you, by that mileage they're on their 2nd or 3rd transmission.)
No magic secrets; these are company owned with employee drivers on three shifts. The only time the engine is shut off is during repairs or refueling, so the truly damaging wear that takes place during cold start-ups is avoided.
Mostly highway driving - no damaging short trips where the engine is shut off before ever reaching operating temperature.
Most of these companies consider the expense of synthetic oil justified and have the lifespans to prove it.
Canadian, eh? Kms to Miles - multiply my numbers by .6 and you're in the ballpark. Not totally accurate, but you'll get my point.
