Hello all,
My folks have an '85 M7..the other day the dash lights went completely out...everything! Is there somekind of relay or sensor in the dash circuit somewhere? Also the odometer comes and goes as it pleases...any ideas there?
TIA!!!!

digital dash, or normal dash? were the lights dim before? was there any kind of power surge, like maybe hooking up jumper cables backwards?

I had the same problem on a 90 thunderbird, digital dash, when i hooked the jumper cables up backwards. I was in a hurry and i mis-read the symbols on the spare battery i was using. Blew out every bulb in the dashboard.

There may be a fuse somewhere. If it's the bulbs you need to take out the instrument panel, take it apart, and replace them. It's kind of a pain, but it's not too bad. They're just the normal small bulbs from NAPA, don't get them from the dealer.

odometer is probably a loose connection. if you take the cluster out make sure all the connectors on the back are tight

This is a digital dash. lights worked fine before. No power surge..no cables hooked up ect....just lost the dash right out of the blue...thanks for the other places to look though...

It's actually a commonality with our 1984-1986 Mark VIIs. The easy part would be to check all fuses. The they ALL are fine, then you need to wiggle test the connectors for the dash components. If you've never done this before, it requires disconnecting and cleaning and then reconnecting each harness and then testing the car with the switch in the run position. Our Marks have a common ground for the dash so only one out of three harnesses can have a loose or dirty connection and effect the entire dash.
