DOA power door locks?

Ok, it is a '91 LSC. When I first bought it, all was well except passenger side power door lock. Keyless entry worked fine(except of course on passenger door). I was planning on buying a PDL actuator, but now neither side works! The keyless entry does not work either!

I checked the fuses, all ok. Pushing the door lock/unlock switch on either side does nothing but - a slight click can be heard coming from rear of car(trunk?). Keypad lights up when pressed, but nothing unlocks. I do not have a EVTM for the Mark VII yet, so I'm kinda lost. The owner's manual only has procedures for activating or deactivating the 'automatic' door lock feature via the keypad.

Any ideas? What the heck could've happened?

On a side note, I was considering adding a RF remote system(keyfob remote entry) for the doors. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

RE: DOA power door locks?

FWIW, I just received the EVTM for the '91 LSC. A quick perusal of the keyless entry section unveiled troubleshooting procedures. It appears from the symptoms I am experiencing that I either have a failing keyless entry module or perhaps a bad ground.

I'm hoping for a bad ground. BTW, the keyless entry module is in the rear shelf area, hence the explanation for the faint clicking noise when actuating the power door locks. Now, to find time on a weekend to step through the diagnostic procedures.

JP, if you need acuators I get good deals on them. LMK. There a cake job to swap too!

RE: DOA power door locks?

I would stick my head in the trunk while someone hits the door lock and try and figure out what kind of demonic possession you have there.

RE: DOA power door locks?

Remove the driver's door panel and check the PDL motor for power when activated. You probably don't have any +power up or down. Find the break in the circuit upstream from there.

While you're in there, check the door lock switch. You may not have +power there either, but you can verify the switch continuity with an ohmmeter.

Good luck!

Diagnostics

Well, months later I finally got around to diagnosing the PDL problem. Following the manual, I stepped through the tests to where I verified power and ground continuity at the keyless entry module. Everything checked out till jumpering across the leads to the power door lock motors. Nothing, zip, nada.

Apparently I need TWO power door lock actuators. I may pull a door panel and hotwire the actuators direct as a final test before I pursue new actuators. But on the other hand, if I'm gonna pull door panels, I might as well get the actuators to have on hand.

BTW, the PDL switches do not have power, they switch to ground sending a ground signal to the module.

It's four months later ... how'd you make out?

Four months!! Four months!! Thanks for reminding me! ;)

Actually, I have went nowhere. I haven't been successful at 'scoring' any PDL motors and refuse to pay dealer's price. ::nono::

And I refuse to pull the door panel without parts.
