Dont let me get Robbed..

So all was lovely in the world of Bill Blass Until I closed the
car window, turned on my Ac And got a hot air blast ...

**Rolls eyes**

I decided to take my Man Marky Marx out to a nice date with a ford
dealership for some Ac inquirements.... It's not a lovely ride
in 110 degree temperature with your window's rolled down because your
Bad Boy has a TEMPER and refuses to blow nothing but hot air out your AC which happens to consequently be hotter than the 110 degree temperature outside..
Anyways with all of that being said.. I step inside to talk with
a female service agent.. who in returns uses her Jazz talk at me..

it went something like this..

BLAH BLAH BLAH YOUR CARS OLD
BLAH BLAH YOU'll PROBABLY NEED A CONVERSION,
BLAH BLAH BLAH AND A DIAGNOSTIC,
BLAH COULD BE LEAKS
BLAH NEED TO RECHARGE
BLAH YOUR CAR USES AN EXPENSIVE $60 A Pnd COOLANT
BLAH THE CONVERSION WILL COST CHEAPER FOR THE COOLANT
BLAH OR A PART THAT MIGHT NEED REPLACING,
BLAH BLAH BLAH WE WONT KNOW UNLESS WE HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK
BLAH BLAH TO BE SURE BLAH..

75-300$ DIAGNOSTIC..
500-1000$+ TO HAVE IT COMPLETELY LOVELY AGAIN

BLAH BLAH.. WAIT.. WHAT THE *BLEEP* DID YOU JUST SAY??

Do I look rich to her? I should jump across the front desk,
grab her lovely shirt and tell her.. she has completely lost her
mind dont try to work her jazz talk to me, Because the only words
I truly understood out of her mouth was.. a large sum of..

***INSERT FAVORITE CUSS WORD HERE***

Anyways.. with all of that being said.. in Lame Donkey terms..

My AC blows hot air out,

And Being mechanically uneducated that I am..

I'd be quite pleased with all the suggestions to what may be wrong and proper mechanic jazz talk and questions I should inquire without getting ripped off.. by some let me overcharge you for what needs to be done to your car, take advantage because we know that you dont understand what were saying lunatic of a woman and plus do some extra things, because that's how we make our money smile in your face customer service rep.xo

PS I understand that my AC could be blowing hot air out for a ton of reasons.. and you would need more information but That's all I got..

HAHA.. so all FRIENDLY suggestions are welcomed!! :D thanks..

RE: Dont let me get Robbed..

Well, we'll all be in the same boat sooner or later.

DuPont's patent on R-134a ran out, so they're going to start lobbying to have that outlawed too (just like they did with R-12). I bet they'll succeed, since a) R-134a is worse than R-12 and b) they already did it once.

Take it to a private mechanic. They can do a dye test and find your leak, fix your leak, then squirt some oil and R-134a in there and you'll be on the road again. But it will still easily cost a few hundred bucks if you can't do it yourself.

RE: Dont let me get Robbed..

I just had the same thing happen to me a few weekends again on way from Maryland to upstate NY. Went to Ford dealer in Mechanicsville, NY and they evacuated and recharged system, installed dye as well. $100.00 later, got car back and cooling very well. That was Thursday June 8th. Today still cooling great, so I have no idea what happened. Just lost enough freon over the years to make it quit...recharged, OK. Probably could have just purchased a can of freon at Wally World and done it myself, but being away from home etc.....

Just trying to say to first let someone...or you can pick up a 5-10 dollar can of freon and put it in yourself....if I doesn't work, it goes to a shop. Worth the few bucks.

Damn.
I think I married your twin Sister.

I cannot add to what Dude said before me other than; on the low end, a friendly neighborhood type might look under the hood at the compressor and see your control wire disconnected and reconnect it for nothing and you'll get cold air.

Maybe the local mechanic will find a bad pressure switch on the passenger's side of the engine bay and replace it for under $100.00

Maybe a leak test will show no leaks and mean that it's safe to squeeze two pounds and ten ounces of R-12 in there at a (true) cost between $60.00 and $200.00 per 16 ounces.

Maybe the Lincoln dealership will send a mechanic to talk to you instead of a front desk talking head and the mechanic will say, "get it tested and filled or tested and converted but get it done elsewhere for 60% less. Here, we'll do it and do it right and will even warranty our work but it's going to be 60% more than Joe the Mechanic at the neighborhood station."

I have R-12 in my 1990 and R134a in my 1988 and had BOTH done at a dealership. I'm very happy with the warrantied work, but I can honestly say that the two jobs were well over $1000.00

Your Bill Blass should blow cold.

RE: Dont let me get Robbed..

For gods (deliberate small "g") sake people. Wally world sells a large can of R-134 for less than $4... I purchased an entire recharge kit for less than $20 which included 3 large cans of R-134 freon. Dont mix it with R-12 BUT, if the system is empty, recharge it with R-134. Not a big deal. (Not legal for a mechanic, but not a big deal)..

Hi,
Could you explain the process in layman's terms for those that have never done it?

Use a 1986 Lincoln as an example if you could please.
