During air conditioning operation with outside air temp above 100 degrees, system blows heated air out driver side and cold air out passenger side. Selecting 60 degrees or max improves the driver side to slightly cool. What is goint on?

RE: Electronic Temperature Control

Does the LS have separate controls for driver/passenger?

RE: Electronic Temperature Control

I don't know if the LS units are the same, but a friend who had a Navigator had the same or similar issue. I remember he had the electronic temperature control replaced by the dealer under warranty.

Sounds like it may be a common issue? You may consider getting an AllData DIY account. Excellent resource for TSBs and service bulletins from the manufacturer as well as service procedures and repair time estimates. At $60 plus per hour at the dealer for diagnostics you can pay the $25 annual cost of the AllData account for resolution of a lot of small issues. Additional vehicles are $15 annual.

I have currently have 2 vehicle subscriptions and find it a valuable resource even though I have every available manual for the Mark VIII. :)

RE: Electronic Temperature Control

Thanks. Fortunately, it is still under basic warranty and is covered by extended warranty. My dealer is reliable and says he has two with same issue now that they have been unable to duplicate. When the solve the problem with those, I may take mine in. It has only done it once. Works fine now.

RE: Electronic Temperature Control

Mike, this is becoming a common problem on the LS. The DATC
system uses what are basically two heater cores which are fed coolant through two sets of heater hoses. When you demand A/C, these hoses are blocked off by an electronically controlled Dual
Shutoff Valve located low on the right hand side of your rad. This
way, the A/C evaporator doesn't have to overcome the heater cores
when cooling. These valves are developing a habit of sticking open. Another example of everything old being new again;
Ford used to have cable operated versions of these all through the
60's and 70's!

I'm suprised your dealer hasn't heard of this. Ford has released
at least two Special Service Messages and a full TSB about it.

I'm not suprised. I've argued with service managers over stuff like this and find I apparently have more info than they do. I've even printed out TSBs and faxed them to them. Now either they do know and are trying to play dumb or they are ... well, never mind.

RE: Electronic Temperature Control

Thanks for your help. I have to visit the dealer with my Mark VIII for service this weekend and I will let him know about the TSB. Of course they have denied knowledge of blend door problems in second gen mark VIIIs also. They are under new management and seem to be more responsive now.

The LS has not done it again by the way.
