ok I got a great deal on a get 2 engine with 44k miles on it for 500 bucks. wondeirng does it bolt right in. I know the differences and will use my 96 intake on it. do the mounts match up? also can I just use my old wires instead of the coil-on setup or is that done through the computer. is the wiring the same all around the engine? and yes i have a 96 so it is obd2 . thanks all

RE: fast help. gen 2 engine in gen1

reuse your valve covers and intake. everything else is the same, or close enough, AFAIK.

RE: fast help. gen 2 engine in gen1

what does afaik? why the valve covers? and also the imrc's are going to be different right? also I am planning on headers will that make a difference?whata bout my coil packs and wires, can I just take off the coil on plugs and use the wires just like that?

RE: fast help. gen 2 engine in gen1

The ignition is different. You need the coil packs(2) from a Gen1 as well as spark plug wires(of course). I've seen some I believe with the Gen2 valve covers but no COP cover. I think you can modify a set of COP covers to work. It would be easier to use the Gen1 valve covers.

There may be other differences I don't know. But it sounds like a good deal without a lot of work.

AFAIK - As Far As I Know

the only reason to change the valve covers is for the ignition. You can probably use the gen 2 valve covers with the gen 1, but if you have your gen 1 valve covers i'd just reuse them. With the engine out they'll be cake to swap over. And yes, you'll need your ignition stuff off the old motor.

Why would you want to put on a 2nd Gen intake?

Its a piece of )@$#()@#)($)(

I got rid of mine for a Cobra intake on the 98 and gained 4-6 tenths in the 1/4

The 1st gen intake is a much better unit.

Get a Cobra intake

I threw my 2nd gen intake in the garbage.

RE: fast help. gen 2 engine in gen1

Cobra he said he was going to use a 96 intake. It is a Gen1 intake not a Gen2 intake. Gen2 is 97-98.

DOAH

I misread the post,,,
I thought it read GEN 2 INTAKE it said Gen 2 ENGINE!!

Sorry doodes, but man 500 bucks for motor is a good deal if you get around to it or can find one throw a 96-98 Cobra intake on it and you will be really suprised.

I dunno that the 1st gen is that much better than the second gen intake to tell you the truth. When I was at the track with some friends, one of the guys has an IDENTICALLY modded '94 (C&L, Tune, 4.10's), and our times were within a few hundreths and I actually turned in the better time, as well as had a better launch and such....but that part is more the driver. I think you'd see similar gains by putting a Cobra intake on a 1st gen. If you don't believe me, ask Thomas A....it was his car.
