Fellow LOD user needs help

Hi gang,

I have been corresponding with a new LOD message board user who is having strange problems with the LOD site. He is running Netscape, and seems to have a problem logging in (or staying logged in) in order to post.

Can someone read our exchange below and decipher what the problem might be? Also, neither him nor I are going to win any hacker awards anytime soon, so please explain any solution in the simplest computer terms possible!

Thanks!

Scott,

Tonight I tried again to post a msg. and it didn't work. After I
clicked on "post msg." at the bottom of the page the "log in" page came up again. I got to the page using the address that you sent to me in your last e-mail. Any ideas about what is going on? What do you think I am doing wrong. This is bothersome. Any suggestions?

Hi Mike,

AH! I think I see what you're doing.

In order to post, you must log on (using your username and password) to the board *every time*, unless you set your profile to "remember" you each time you visit the board.

Once you log on, click on the "Settings" icon, then click on "Edit your preferences", then make sure the little "yes" bubble is filled in for "Automatically log in when you return". This should keep you from having to log in each time you visit. Oh - one more thing. If you ever delete your "cookies" on your computer, this also deletes the file that tells the board to automatically log you in. So you'll have to do what I posted above if you delete your cookies frequently...

This is what I have done;

logged on
clicked on settings; login window came up again.
user menu came up.
clicked on "edit preferences" and 'login window' came up.
logged in again.
user menu up.
auto login bubble was darkened.
clicked 'update' at bottom of page.
login window came up.
clicked on 'login' without putting name and password in boxes and
window came up again indicating incorrect user name.
user menu came up again.

What do you think now?

RE: Fellow LOD user needs help

I have the same problem. I found that I must disable my Zone Alarm firewall in order to log in properly. I hope this helps.
