First Track Day for my Lincoln

Here’s something you don’t see everyday. A Mark VIII at speed at Talladega Superspeedway!

Talladega had a “fan appreciation day” over the weekend that allowed you to drive your own car around the track for 2 laps.

Heading into the tunnel taken by my buddy that wanted to ride.

Had to wait over 4 hours for my turn since they weren’t really expecting over 12,000 people to show up. Despite the wait, it was totally worth it.

In line with all the other "normal" cars.

They let about 8 cars out at a time following a pace truck (no passing allowed). I was the next to last car in line, so I let the group get pretty far ahead for this run. On pit row at about 20 mph heading toward turn 1, flat out to middle of the back stretch hitting over 115 mph, before having to let up since we were catching the pack FAST!

It was a major rush, highly recommend it if you get the chance!

Kewl!

That was a lot bigger track than Bristol where I had the '96 at this past summer! :D

Most tracks can be rented for a couple hundred bucks. No wait, no crowd, just you and the track for an hour or two.

California Speedway does that, among others.

I GUARANTEE you that it costs more than a "couple hundred bucks" to rent a race facility.

More like $50,000 for a weekend.

hell, a drag strip costs $7,000/day...and that's just for 8 hours.
throw in the cost of the ambulance and we're closer to $10,000

But, if you get 50 racers to split the cost with ya...then it's close to
a couple hundred bucks.

But a road course all to yourself for a couple hundred bucks?

if I am wrong...sign me up.

Man...that video was awesome...but HOLY....that camera work made it feel like you were spinning!
I envy you...that video was so cool.

At one time they did indeed offer the track to A SINGLE person for an hour or two for somewhere between $200 and $400 (you signed waivers for insurance, injury, liability, the whole wazoo), but I did not know that the Speedway recently changed ownership and no longer rents out to individuals.

And it is not a road course they offered, but just a plain old oval track. I guess the thinking is that it is difficult to screw up on these tracks in a "street" car...you would need to intentionally drive into the wall.

We pay about $400 for the day with a club to do an HPDE. You get about five 1/2 hour runs for that. But you are sharing the track with a lot of other people.

Glad y'all like the vid. Wish I could do it everyday!

Last time I heard anything about renting "dega" (it was many moons ago) it was something like $1200/hr with a 6 hour minimum. Extra charges abound i.e. garage area, security, etc.

Save your pennies!

Sounds like I should have taken the $300 deal at CA Speedway when I had the chance!
