Hey Folks,

Trying to identify by number, the Flaming River Stainless Steel Steering Joint that works for the1994 Mark VIII. I need the joint, bolt for shaft attachment and set screw for gear box. Actually, I don't know where to get the bolt and set screw either . Can anyone identify the correct joint, bolt and set screw? (I have the stub) Thanks so much for your help!

I did a little "mining" in the archive, and it appears to be part# FR1715DD

Shout out to Ponyfreak for actually listing the part number. :)

Here's the direct link to Flaming River, but it looked like Summit stocks it also. https://www.flamingriver.com/fr1715dd-3-4-inch-36x3-4-inch-dd-universal-billet-joint

Hey Mike,

Not sure that's the right product or fit for '94 Mark VIII. Tried putting it on and it is just not going on. Basically just rocks on top of the gear box post. The gear box post has a flat side on it about 1/4" wide, as does the old rag joint I took off. There are splines on the rest of the surfaces. All splines on inside perimeter of Flaming River joint. Seems I remember a reference chart somewhere that gives specifics on Mark's gear box post, but don't know where I saw it. Anyway, this doesn't seem to be the one.
Regards!

Somehow it appears you do not have the correct joint. The FR1715DD is supposed to have the 3/4" DD(Double D) on one end?

Wait... you said the gearbox had a "DD" shaft??? I don't think that's stock. I know every one I've owned/modified had the 3/4" - 36 spline shaft.

To be sure... the 'stock' steering rack shaft should be 3/4" - 36 spline and the telescopic steering shaft should be 3/4" Double D.

I've owned the '94 from the beginning, so it has the stock steering rack shaft (the original). The Flaming River FR1715DD does not fit (splines don't align), even though it's the 3/4 DD 36 spline. I have a stock rag joint that's in fantastic new-like condition (feels like new), that I went ahead and attached after removing the old one, so I can still drive. Just wanted to install the Flaming River to feel the difference, if any. Has to be a logical explanation for this.

On a slightly different note. Do you know of a protective boot for the Mark VIII lower steering column, for the coupler? Thanks. Appreciate it.

If the stock rag joint fit and the Flaming River joint did not, the only logical explanation is the Flaming River joint is defective or it is not the correct size and was mislabeled / mispackaged.

I've never known of any protective boot for the lower steering column or the coupler.

Pretty much what I figured as well...mislabeled or packaging. Thanks for the reply on the protective boot question.
