Ok, the Mark VIII experienced some technical difficulties. Yesterday the A/C was blowing out hot air, even when set at 60 degrees. This morning it worked fine. Then later on in the day when I tried to turn the A/C on.........nothing, it would not blow hot or cold or anything in between, nothing was happening. I think the control unit took a dump but I dont know. I bought another from ebay to test it out. Any idea what the problem is?. TIA.

First, check to see if your cooling fan comes on when the AC is on.

What year Mark VIII?

Its a '95. By cooling fan you mean the radiator cooling fan?. I'll have to check. The A/C compressor does come on when I turn the A/C on but nothing comes out the vents in ANY mode now. No defrosters, vents, nothing. I hope its something simple.

Yes, the cooling fan for the radiator.

I'm not with my manuals, check your fuses and search the forums for how to run a diagnostic on the EATC. Also search for the link to the common blower motor harness failure.

The only reason I think it may be the control unit is because I had multiple symptoms. First the a/c was blowing hot and blower was working, then the next day the A/C was ice cold and blowing just fine. Now nothing works, the compressor clicks on but nothing blows out the vents. If it were the blower why would it blow only hot or cold?. Its 90 degrees outside, this is not good.

UPDATE: The A/C, blower and everything started working again, but who knows how long that will last?. Anyway, taking this into consideration would you think this is some deep routed electrical problem or the AC/Heat control unit?. I dont see how it can be the blend door as the AC and the heat are now working and the blower is now blowing. Any ideas?. Thanks.

Most likely the HVAC control unit like you suggested. I highly doubt its a major electrical issue. I'd pull it out and double check the plug, make sure it didn't get knocked loose during a stereo install or something.

EATC self test:

NOTE: Self diagnostics should be run in ambient temperatures of at least 10°C (50°F). Record all diagnostic trouble codes displayed during self diagnostics.

If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, perform the following EATC On-Board Self Diagnostics Test:

a. Turn ignition switch (11572) to RUN position.

b. Push both OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously, then press AUTO within two seconds.

c. NOTE: Display will be blank during testing.

After about 20 seconds, a code will appear in the window. Refer to the following Diagnostic Trouble Code Directory to identify the error for the proper diagnostic procedure:

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DIRECTORY

Diagnostic Trouble Code/Description/Action

01/Damaged control assembly./GO to Pinpoint Test A.
02/AC air temperature control door/GO to Pinpoint Test B.
03Automatic temperature control sensor openGO to Pinpoint Test N.
04/AC ambient air temperature sensor/GO to Pinpoint Test H.
05/AC sunload sensor short./GO to Pinpoint Test J.

d. To exit the diagnostics function press the blue button. When the control assembly is turned back on, the A/C air temperature control door will self-calibrate for 20 seconds.

If no DTCs are generated as a result of the self-diagnostic test (88°F°C code is displayed), determine the symptom(s) and go to the Symptom Chart.

Hmmm, I did put in a Sony Mp3/CD player in it last week, wonder if I rattled something?. It didn't go in easy.

Mark VIII Intermittent Blower Motor Fix
Great info!. I need to get a scanner so I can run codes.

Haha...am I good or what?!
I thought about that even before I posted but I cant imagine what could have happened. A/C has been working now for the last 2 days, maybe over the weekend I'll pull the radio out and see what might have happened.

Check the connector TO the blower motor {behind the glove box door)
My 95 had fried the cheapo white plastic connector.
If I wiggled it.. the blower would run.

I replaced that pigtail and haven't had any problems since.
(just a thought)

Day after I made this thread it started working again and its been working fine ever since. I dont know what to say about that but I'll take it. :D
