Front End Kit

Well..I heard a noise coming out of the driveway, come to find out it was the driver's side spring. Seems somewhere down the line of owners, someone put a front-end conversion kit on.

The local mech is quoting me between $300 & $400 for just the two springs. Does anyone know where I could get an entire kit for cheaper than that?

The mech says he'll have to take the springs off just to find out who made the kit then order the springs from them. I figure if I can get a kit for cheaper, I'll go that route.

Figured maybe someone had a new one they've decided not to use or a used one taken off another car.

I have a '99 Conti.

Get a new mechanic, from what I reacll I belive that generation Continental only came with the air bags in the rear and coil springs up front.

Yep, had another mechanic check 'em out. They are just coil springs. He says I need the strut assembly (or can I just buy the spring? ). Anyone know of a good place to buy online? I'm mechanically challenged :D so I don't really know that much besides the basic - I build computers for a living...lol.

AARg....can't find the spring anywhere...only the dealer. $354 isn't gonna happen. There's gotta be a way to get this part...

help....

Is the spring broke? Or is the strut worn out? Both? I'm confused.

Either way, the spring and strut (shock absorber) should be available separately?

Edit - I just looked on RockAuto and found some for as low as $119 (standard). Do you know if you have the standard or 'auto-adjustable'?

They are the standard "passive suspension" since I don't have the ride control option on my Conti. As far as I know, the spring is just broke on the driver's side. I'll see if I can find anything on rockauto.

What all does the "strut assembly" come with? I think that's what I need.

You're golden then. Just get the "strut assembly" for $119. It will be the complete strut which consists of the shock absorber and spring. I would replace them in pairs.

Have it in the shop now...part was a day late (shipped it using next business day)...

I'm glad I'm learning what I can here, sometimes mechanics don't know what they're talking about when it comes to Lincolns.

BTW...I just got some new rims & tires put on, will post a few pics when I get the car back later on today (hopefully)...I only went up to 17" from the stock 16" (still have in garage), and got 4 of those newer Goodyear Assurance "Comfortred" tires. They do make a difference as far as noise goes and they weren't much more than the original Assurance tires.

Yeah, unfortunately that was the wrong part. Supposed to get the part in today through my mechanic (special order) via Ford I think. Over $300 for just the one spring.

Whatcha' gonna do?
