fuel pressure regulator????

I took off the fuel pressure regulator today, or at least that's what I think it is. It kind of looks like a miny, upside down fuel filter, it is located between the intake tube and intake manifold, you guys know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, I shook out all of the gasoline and then tried to blow air through all three holes, but they were all pluged. I couldn't blow air through any hole. Is that the way the fuel pressure regulator is, or do I need to buy a new one.

Thanks David

RE: fuel pressure regulator????

David, the fuel pressure regulator is on the drivers side mounted to the fuel rail with 2 (maybe 3) screws. It also has a vacuum line attached to the top. The second gens have another smaller regulator looking thing on the passenger side fuel rail. It also has a vacuum line on top. I think it comes off with a snap ring. I don't know if the first gen's have this or not. I don't believe either of these has 3 lines. They mount on top of the fuel rail rather than the fuel lines hooking up with them. I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about. Is there anyway you can post a picture of it? What types of problems are you having?

RE: fuel pressure regulator????

On a gen 1 it is on the passenger side, It has three holes, the top one is a sort of vacuum line, while the bottom two holes line up with the fuel rails and you can't see them unless you take it off.

My car idles at around 600 rpms and has a slight vibration, I just want to fix the problem. I have already tried a number or things and was just wondering if this could be the problem. I blew air through all the holes and they all seemed clogged

RE: fuel pressure regulator????

You can get an adaptor fitting, 3ft braided steel line, and a fuel pressure gage for about $50 from most race shops. Then you can put the gage under the wiper blade so you can read it. Drive around and watch your fuel pressure. It should be around 38psi under load and aound 30 at idle. If you seem to be keeping good pressure then your fuel system is probably not the problem. I did this mod on my car so that I could make sure my fuel pressure was not dropping at top end. The cheap fuel pressure gage I used isn't very accurate but it still lets me know that my fuel pressure is OK and not dropping under heavy acceleration. I left mine hooked up under the hood and only put it under the wiper when I'm curious. I'm planning on installing an adjustable regulator because mine is a little high right now. I tried the adjusting fuel pressure with a hammer and big socket mod. I don't recommend this mod but if you are planning on replacing the regulator anyway what do you have to lose. Remember you can only raise fuel pressure with the hammer & socket method of adjustment.

I will be switching from Falken 502 255/50/ZR16 to the same size in a Dunlop SP8000 next week. I'm hoping it will help my rear traction problem!

RE: fuel pressure regulator????

Why not go 245/50? They fit awesome!

This is what the TerminVIIIor's tire size was on the stock rims.

RE: fuel pressure regulator????

That's what I have on the front in a Falken ZE-502. They fit really well on the stock rims. I like the 255's on the back even though they are kinda wide.

I don't think I have any webspace here yet. I still need to pony up the cash. What's weird is that I can see it if I click on my profile. Hmmmmmm..... Conspiracy of some sort....

RE: fuel pressure regulator????

I swear I had actual pictures yesterday. What happended? Maybe they were too big?

I just logged into my msn passport and now they show up. Can anyone else see them or maybe I'm trippin?

That's the key - it sounds like MSN has security on their site that doesn't allow access to stuff they're unless you're a member - kinda like geocities.com doesn't allow linking to pictures people post at their site.

Put your pics on a normal site somewhere...those other places are too paranoid...
