I drove out to Orland today to look at this gem and wanted to give anyone else a heads up not to waste your time:

ISSUE ONE: He states in the ad the paint is good, maybe if you are blind. The left front fender has been poorly repainted as well as part of the left door. The panel is not original and the paint is very dull. The paint on the hood is faded and might buff out if you are lucky. There is a spot on the roof that has peeled off. The rest of the car is fine.

ISSUE TWO: He states it has no rust. I will agree there is no visable rust on the outside but the bottoms of the doors when you open them are rusted out and it should be showing in about a week on the outside.

ISSUE THREE: When you give it a little gas the whole car shakes. The owner claims it doesnt shake at all. I don't know what is wrong, could be a misfire, could be a bad engine mount, loose exhaust, I don't know.

ISSUE FOUR: One of the pully's squeak till it warms up, maybe not a huge deal but lets be honest it needs to be replaced, owner clains it is fine.

ISSUE FIVE: The big one, the air suspension, he does tell you about this but claims it is a sensor or switch. Well how do you know? It could be anything. One it is working all 4 bags could leak and then you are looking at over $2000 to fix it.

I offered him $1000 bucks. He got all mad at me. Thats what it is worth in its current condition and I thought I was being generous, You can't test drive it because it is so low it cant turn without scaping the tires on the fenders. How do I know if the trans is good? I am not even sure the car can get up onto a flat bed to be towed it is sitting so low right now. I figured about $1000.00 in paint work, about $700 to convert it to coil springs (doing it myself) and get rid of the air ride headaches, and maybe $500 to fix the rough running? So thats $2300 and I haven't even fixed the rust. He might come down to $2000 if he can drop his attitude long enough. Why would anyone pay that and be into the car for $4300...oh yeah and plus a tow when they could buy a good one for less and not have any work? Like I say a grand for the car was probably generous. He says he turned down offers of $1500 and $1600, I would have taken the money and ran! This car is way to much of a risk for what he wants for it. If it was otherwise perfect and just needed the suspension work done OK fine. Also kind of funy he claims he just replaced the headlights. Really? They are all cloudy.

At least the advertiser didn't call it a Diamond Anniversary edition just because it is a 1996 model. Nearly every ad I see for a 1996 Mark VIII has "Diamond Anniversary' in the text somewhere.
