gas out the tail pipes?

Ok, so first off we're talking about an 01 Conti, my mechanic says that he got the car running after replacing the crank sensor, but now the car is dumping raw gas out the pipes, and he's afraid to even start it, so I'm on my way there now to check it out for myself...

Does this even sound possible to anyone else? That the car would "run" and manage to dump that much fuel into the exhaust?

Thanks! -J

RE: gas out the tail pipes?

If there is a problem with the ignition and fuel is not igniting you will smell the gas coming out the exhaust. It could be mixing with the condensation as well. If this is happening you should get an oil change, because you may have gas in your oil as well now.

RE: gas out the tail pipes?

Replacing the crank sensor tells me the car was most likely cranked quite a bit through several cycles trying to diagnose the no start issue. I suppose it could be feasible excess fuel was pumped during this time and most likely laid in the converters. When the car was again running the exhaust flow forced any remaining fuel out the tailpipes.

Well, as it turns out, I don't think he ever got the car running, at least it wouldn't run while I was there.I think either the cam or crank sensor is bad, and somehow he got the fuel pump to engage anyway. The car is now on it's way to the local Lincoln garage...http://www.lincolnsclub.org/forum/images/loveit.gif -JLOD - New England Member--> www.ivotedblue.com www.airamericaradio.com--> www.bradleyreport.net www.npr.org

An explosion at a Lincoln dealership would be warmly received by most of us here...give 'em one for us!

Just hope the feds don't arrest me now for terrorism affiliation...:(

RE: gas out the tail pipes?

So the lincoln dealer has been working on the car all morning and still can't figure out whats wrong with it.

Now if this was a cam/crank sensor, they would have found it by now I think...

Any idea's whats going on here?

I'm not sure if the car being flooded is because of whatever problem there is, or if it's because of whatever my mechanic did to it to try and fix it.

RE: gas out the tail pipes?

ford engine.... yeah it's probably flooded. Did it idle realy rough when the mechanic had it running or what/? One time during winter i couldn't start my car for the life of me, went through 2 batteries.. When it got to 20 degrees out it took like 30 seconds of inconsecutive cranking to get it started and it idled really rough for the first 5-10 minutes then it smooothed out.
