Gen. 1. Fault on recently recon. transmission

Hi guys. I recently, about 1000m ago had a rebuilt tranny put in.
It was ok until a few days ago when it started to surge up and down at very light throttle and low speed - between 15 to 30 mph. The revs move 1100 - 1500 until the load increases and then it performs normally. I do have a warranty on the trans but I'm looking to have more info before I take it back. Here in the UK, auto box repair shops are few and the one that did mine is 100m away.

If anyone could help it would be appreciated - thanks.

Your not the first person to have this problem. My car does it, as well as a few others on the board. I don't know if anyone has been able to figure out why it does it exactly or not, but it seems to be related to the transmission's torque converter lockup from what i have read.

Thanks for your reply. It gives me something to work with when I take it back to the shop.

Yup, mine does that at the same speeds you're talking about. I agree, I think it's the converter locking up in third gear and not wanting to go back down until you really give it some gas. From my understanding, this can be caused by something as simple as the type of tranny fluid you're running.

Thanks for that Zach. It's funny, here in the UK, Mercon 5 is virtually unheard of but I think it is used, under a different name in the Ford Fiesta CVT. I intended to change the fluid myself as soon as I could get some so I'll try that first.
