Blower takes a while (if your inexperienced it'll take you about a month incl;uding work and a gf), some experience (well you'll gain some real quick), and some hacking up of the car. (Makes jesus cry) A used one with proper (read:new and expensive) fuel upgrades and dyno tune can be had for around 2000-2300 or so for everything involved.

Everything new would cost quite a bit more and probably be up into the 3500-4000+ or so range installed yourself.

watch some dirt track racing and you'll forget all about your street car.

I'm brand new to the Mk8 myself, but not cars or working on them in anyway.

When I got my 93 F150 truck I stared by doing some regular replacement stuff to see how it would respond.

Changed plugs to Bosch Platinums.
Changed coil to a higher voltage after market coil.
Changed wires, cap, and rotor to enhanced after market parts.
Changed Ox sensor.
Changed the oil and filter.
New air filter.
New PVC valve.
Made sure the tire pressure was all good.

Felt like a different truck all together as it had been "woken up".

Next, I put a low restriction muffler with cat back system on.

Even better, but the pipes were 1 7/8 CarX crap.

Year later I go for a Hi-Po cat converter and new y pipe. That was 3 inch cat dumping into 3 inch pipe the 2.5 pipes out of the muffler back.

Better still......

Then I dropped in a 4.11 gear form the 3.55 and under drive pulleys which were the best mods of all. Really woke the motor up and the truck ran like a scalded dog for a little 5.0 liter.

All very gradual stuff and I suggest the quickest feel good mod you can make(IMHO)is a better rear gear. I hear these cars have 2.73 or 3.07 ratios? A set of 3.55's might be the ticket or 3.42? If going from 2.73 how about 3.23?

I have a set of 3.55's I could pop in, but I may not. My truck suffered from bad gas mileage after the 4.11's and the Mk is pretty darn fast the way it is for daily use.

At one time I had a 1969 Coupe Deville that was running about 450 hp.... You could actually watch the gas gauge go down running 130 mph at 3AM in the highway:) That was another time and place though.

As far as gears, stock is 3.08 for the base model and 3.27 for the LSC models in later years. Those who upgrade usually select 3.73s or 4.10s.

OK guys...things are starting to get beyond the intend of this thread (GENERAL). I'll leave all the above posts but from here on please post your questions/answers in the specific Mark VIII folder.
