Got Neon? What do I do?

Well guys, I’m at a loss here. Got all these Neons here and don’t know what to do with them.

I’ve mentioned that my original neon didn’t work. It’s a shame too, because, besides a dime size dent on the trim, it’s really in mint condition. So I order a glitch inverter. Kinda sucked to wire it up, and it still didn’t work. Took it to a neon light shop, they hit it with the “wand” and it didn’t light. They said if I could get to the bulb, they “might” be able to fix it. So I started to look for a spare...

I stumbled across a chrome light assembly that is in very nice shape. Only flaw I can find is about a 2” sag in the diffusor. Hardly noticeable really. The inverter is bad with this one, but threw the glitch inverter into it and it came alive! Ah, Neon!

Y’all know the problem with installing a chrome light assembly on a red LSC. I could have it painted, but I still don’t have the right letters on it.

So a red one comes up on that auction site. I’m sure somebody around might have been looking at it. Described rather poorly, questionable feedback. He had a 7 day return on it. Personal message says it is not damaged. I get it...

This one has been repainted (some orange peel) and some scratches in the lens that I can buff out. Some yahoo also put “Custom” letters in front of the LSC letters. It has very minor mold in it. Plugged the glitch inverter into it and it lights.

So I have two not “perfect” working lights and one “near perfect” non-working light. Wife says I can’t just keep collecting these things (I disagree, I call them “commodities”).

Any ideas? Not real crazy about cutting them up yet...Has anybody gotten the “LSC” letters off without damaging them?

Is the poorly painted red one the one that Jamie was talking about? Bought from Florida?

Jamie & J:

It came from some guy in Mississippi, he's dealing in parts for all types of cars. I think the only Mk8 parts he had was the red trunklid and the ballast. My plan was if it didn't light to send it back to get the refund, since it lights, I feel it's worth what I paid for it. Wish it was in a bit better shape though, it would be on the car right now.

Trixie:

Told the wife I want one of every color. Would be pretty cool to hang them on the wall and have them sequence in some way, she replied "that would be cool" with and eye roll afterward.

Best thing I can think of is open my original, open one or the other to get the bulb guts out, install in the original. Crazy thing is my original has no signs of damage (other than the very minor dent in the trim), if you shake it nothing rattles.

Maybe a red NOS one will show up, but I'd probably have to sell the car to afford it...

Everyone please keep their eyes out for a nice red one. As you can see, I got a few to work a deal with...
