Griding sound from the front end

I have a grinding sound coming from my front breaks when they seem to get hot when driving in stop and go traffic. I am betting on the rotors are going bad or have gone bad already. Last work on my front end, I noticed that the rotors had a "glaze" or "dirty" look to them. I have see posts about taking sand paper to them and "ruffing" them up a bit.

Any suggestions?

Ya, replace them! If you think think they are shot, do it now. $20 per side I think.... or about that....

Lmao...do NOT attempt to "ruff" up the rotors with sand paper. I HIGHLY recommend changing the rotors when you replace the pads....if you don't you're either going to glaze the pads, or have vibration issues. Regardless...if you hear grinding, its time for new ones.

I do agree with you on the grinding issue. It's not a metal to metal grinding noise. I know what that sounds like and I have pulled the tires and looked at the pad's and there is about 1/4" of pad left on them. I had them installed about 16 months ago. The rotors are smooth and there are no groves in them. Maybe I will take a couple of pics and upload them so everyone can get a better idea what to instruct me on.

Thanks for your comments.

No problem....

Ok, if its not metal to metal(did you check the inner AND outer pads?) than most likely you just have some "lifetime" pads on it. The pads are probably just made of a hard composite and when they heat up a bit, they make noise. If the rotors are smooth, that is also a good sign that the pads are crappy. Do you recall what type was installed, by you or a shop?
