What would a exhaust that was just dual in - dual out of one muffler perform like? Something like a magnaflow muffler.

Do a search....a lot of people take out the 3rd catalytic converter and install a dual in/out muffler in its place.

Um...you said it. :) I went to "advanced search" typed in "muffler" and searched in the "exhaust" forum. Here is a picture of what I was talking about.....

this week i am taking a customer's 93 to the exhaust shop i deal with, and will be cutting out the 3rd cat, and having an x pipe put in its place, which will lead directly into a magnaflow 2 1/2 inch dual in, dual out muffler, then have 2 1/2 inch pipes all the way to the rear bumper. i will post pics and a video of it after it is finished.

Jamie,

I don't mean any disrespect by this, but wouldn't installing a Magnaflow DI/DO muffler behind a X-pipe be a bit redundant? Those mufflers have a common central chamber, wherein the exhaust pulses can equalize in much the same way as a X-pipe.

On the Magnaflow website, the 5x11 oval mufflers with part numbers #12568 and #14568 (satin and polished stainless, respectively) are advertised as having a "Tru-X Perforated Core" which is essentially an internal X-pipe. The 4x9 oval mufflers are not advertised as having this feature, though they may anyway.

Just hoping to save someone a little $$....

That's what I did with mine. I used a Magnaflow 2 1/2" di/do into Magnaflow 2 1/2 singles and then had the stock tips welded back on.

im doing what the customer wants done so you arent disrespecting me lol. he is in his early 50's and doesnt want the car real loud and doesnt want drone, thats why we arent putting mufflers in the back of the car where the seem to drone the worst, just an x pipe and single muffler with pipes the rest of the way, should sound decent, but not loud and no drone.

Here is the looks of the ones I used that happen to be 3" for my application
