Heads

Looking into the future, exactly what heads are compatible with the Mark VIII DOHC engine? I assume the same as '96-'98 Cobra DOHC?

Are there any production 'stock' DOHC heads better than the stock Mark VIII?

What should I be looking for?

RE: Heads

If you're going to replace the heads, go with any 03+ heads, be it aviator, mach1, marauder or cobra. Then you have so many new options when supercharging ... think 2.2 KB.

.}( You read my mind.

No M8 stock intake would go with the '03 heads, right? So I'm going to need an intake as well, and so which one's best before stepping up to the Kenne Belle? I'm guessing Cobra?

RE: Heads

KB and eaton and whipple ALL use the 03 cobra lower manifold and 03 cobra intercooler; it is included in some kits (mach1 kit for example). That's what you need. In the meantime you could get the 99-02 or 03+ mach1 intake to have the motor running before KB fund pays off.

So to sum it all up: 93-98 aluminum block, forged pistons/rods, 03+ heads, 2.2 KB MACH1 kit, and you're set.

Main difference between 03 cobra KB kit and 03 mach1 KB kit is the blower snout placement. It is longer on the cobra to use the secondary belt system. On the Mach1 kit you relocate the alternator to where the vortech compressor would go.

BTW don't wait for the b-head KB adapter deal- it won't happen, no matter what LvC says.

Straight from Lidio's website:

"so far on the dyno in 3rd gear (1 to 1 ratio) with two cat’s and mufflers, full 2.5” exhaust, stock exhaust manifolds, and the stock 3.55’s in the axle, we’ve already made 560 RWHP and 536 ft. lbs of torque. The torque comes on incredibly hard, early and stays broad. With the stock, tight torque converter and not-so-perfect traction it’s already run high tens in the 1/4 at well over 130 MPH "

Remember, mach1 weights close to what our cars weight ...

You make it sound so simple. ;)

But hey, I've got the '93 aluminum block! :p

RE: Heads

I agree about getting 03 heads and 99/01 intake or blower but the Mach 1 is a lot lighter than the Mark VIII. I believe it to be around 3300lbs or so. The 03 Cobra with the iron block and all the blower accessories and the IRS, etc. weighs 3650 lbs without driver.

RE: Heads

yeah, I was thinking about the 05 GT. Anyway they weight in around 3480 or so. Not a light car by any means.

RE: Heads

You got it. 14psi of idle with stock TC does make the car feel GOOOOODDDDD.

Karkraft has some core engines, even an 04 avatior long block for around $1,100. That would be a good start for the build up.

RE: Heads

Cool, thanks for the pic. i notice that the stocker fuel lines are being used it looks to me. I was wondering if after market fuel logs from aeromotive would be able to fit in there with room to spare for the KB. Judging from that pic, I'll have plenty of room to use them?

Also it looks like ill have to relocate the Alternator too, Does that "monster crossover tube" come with the KB kit? My engine is a 2001 SVT Cobra, and was wondering if the KB comes with its own lower intake piece or is it all one piece that bolts on top of engine?

RE: Heads

I am pretty sure that you can run 99+ heads and a gen 1 mark VIII intake if you can come up with some IMRC's off of a 99 continental. They are a rare find. I have only had one set. I sold them to a fella that was going to do just that.
