Please help me with any info possible. I was changing that noisy idler pully and some how managed to over tighten the bolt that holds the pully to the front cover and it snaped right off. Does anyone know what is involved in replacing the fornt cover on a 98 LSC. Is this something I can do myself. If anyone has a step by step instruction to follow please let me know. Thanks, Jesse

Can't you drill the broken bolt and use an extractor?

You will need to use some basic machinist tools to get this out. You may need to remove some items to get a electric drill with a short drill bit to drill a hole for the extractor. Be sure that you center punch the bolt in the center and then use a center dill so that your extractor drill has a chance to be in the center of the broken bolt.

Before you do anything really involved, see if it would be possible to grind a slot into the bolt using a drammel tool. Then you might be able to get a screwdriver on it.

If the bolt broke off pretty deep, then this may not be the best option.

Did the aluminum boss (the part that protrudes from the timing chain cover, and receives the bolt) break off?? If it did, you will need to replace the cover. I do believe that you have to remove the cam covers and at least the first 2-4 bolts from the front of the oil pan, in order to replace the timing chain cover. Let us know what you come up with. Good luck!
