I have a 1993 Lincoln MArk VIII with the factory amp. The problems is that from the speakers every now and then, sometimes it will be fine for days and then sometimes just happens. Anyway it pop, cracks and hear static and all sorts of stuff. Most people say its the amp, some say the speakers or maybe bad wiring. I checked the speakers and it still does it with a different speaker and it still does it. So does this mean its the amp and can it be fixed or is it cheaper to just get an aftermarker CD player. I;m looking for the cheapest solution with still having a CD player. Please help

I replaced my factory system with an aftermarket system. Afterwards a fellow member had issues similar to what you describe and he bought my factory JBL amp and it worked fine. I would suspect the amp?

Yep, mine popped, cracked made static and all sorts of stuff, including a high pitched squeal sometimes.

I bought Driller's old amp and it's been working great ever since.:)

But one that fits from a junk-yard/ebay/Jamie98lsc.

I think the 93/94 are the years you need to look for.

I also have this problem and it is with a 93 mark VIII . Any time I mess with the volume button, that’s when all the popping and crackling occurs. I find this to get worse the colder it gets outside. Sometimes the speakers work on the left channel or right only. When it does work right, every thing sounds fine. I swapped in a different head unit and it still did it. I also swapped in a different amp (out of a 93) and it still did it but I thought it may have been a different popping and cracking sound.(not exactly sure). Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Could I have swapped in an amp that’s also bad?

Thanks much, Kenton

Welcome to LOD Kenton! :lodrules: It's nice to finally have someone from Utah take my advice and check this place out. Now I don't feel so lonely... :( Don't be a stranger, (like Jesse) visit here often, and try that extra amp I have. It just might do the trick. Here is that pic I took yesterday. For everyone, mine is on the left, Kenton's is on the right. (Mine is the one that doesn't pop!) :)

it is possible you have gotten two bad amps. Of could be the head-unit. The head is what supplies the signal to amp to "amplify" and then send to speakers. So it breaks down to you are putting noise into you amp you are only getting amplified noise from the speakers.....Now going back to the bad amp, the symptoms you described are the M.O. of a bad/faulty amp. I just love that ford/lincoln do not use Bose as the High-End audio systems. It is a heck of alot cheaper to replace a JBL system with OEM or after market equip then to buy Bose OEM or re-wire the whole car to accept after-market.
