Hey guys,

I just got a pair of HID lenses and bulbs. But I need the ballasts to run them. Does anyone know the part number for these and aprox. prices?

You will not be able to buy the ballast as a seperate item. Ford only sales the bulbs or the entire unit (bulbs, ballast & lenses). Congradulations on finding a set of lenses though. Before I did the conversion I wanted just the lenses and was going to put Halogens in them, but could never find a pair. Your best option at this point is to keep a close eye on the auction sites and the bone yards.

Also keep in mind that the Mark is the only vehicle out there that uses DC power. Everyone else uses AC from the ballast to the bulb. In other words you can't use ballast designed for a different vehicle, which is unfortunate as well. I did extensive research on this subject before I got mine and explored options of all kinds. Your pretty much stuck unless you find a pair of used ballast, but most liekly you will have a spair pair of lenses to go with them.

I think i read that the gen 2 is the same ballast as the gen 1, somebody verify that for me. That would mean that it would be easier to find than the lenses, so you're over half way there and I'm jealous.

Ballast and bulb for gen1 and gen2 are identical. The only difference is the lens, obviously.

Genuine Ford 97-98 HID Ballast. These can be used on 1996 model Mark 8 when you remove the original harness and wire them in direct.

If I did, I'd have 'em on my '93. The ballasts are rarely seen on eBay anymore, the Gen1 HID lenses - I can't remember the last time I seen any and I've given up looking.

I did try again on a few online parts searches a couple weeks ago and found high priced pieces but no where near a full set at a decent price. To me, a decent price would be 50% cost of new or less for near new quality. I shudder at the thought of buying a used ballast for $250 or more and then weeks later it blows. No thanks, I'd rather buy new.

Frankly dear, I don't drive the Mark VIII enough at night to justify it. I'd rather spend the money on performance parts.

I agree with you driller. I would rather spend that money on performance parts, but they are just soooo damn nice looking. I do SOME night driving, but that don't matter to me. I just want the HID's!. Won't be coming for a long time now tho. ;(
Guess I'll use that money on a nice CD player and dash kit. ( Brushed alluminum is looking quite tasty right now!, anyone have any pics of the brushed..., that would be some help)
