how to cofirm a 373

My cousin gave me a mustang rear end that he claims has a 373 and was rebuilt a couple years ago before it was wrecked. How do I confirm that the rear end is a 373 if it wasn't stock. Does the ring and pinion have some kind of marks on it or do I have to count teeth.

you can count the teeth. Count how many teeth are on the ring, then divide that number by how many teeth are on the pinion. That will tell you what the gear ratio is. Hopefully it is a match set.

Jack the car up, use the valve stem as a marker and complete one revolution with the tire, rotating it one revolution while some one counts how many revolutions the yoke of the rear spins.

If its a 3.73 then the yoke will turn 3.7 times for one wheel revolution.
