I need your Audio Opinion!

I'm looking to finally buy a new head unit for my 97 Mark VIII. I've been browsing the internet and I like the Alpine CDA9833 and Pioneer DVHP5000MP. I want something that can play MP3 and I like the look of the Alpine, but the Pioneer can play DVD also but I need to hook up a monitor to it. Or should I just get the Alpine with retractable screen? Price is a definte consideration, so I'm leaning to the Pioneer. But if you have a better option, please suggest! Thanks!

Its not do or die, DJ, but I thought it would be nice to have a DVD player. You make a good point about running wires. Is the Alpine CVA1004 a decent unit or can you recommend something else with a built in screen for around the same $$$. Thanks.

I would get the 9835 instead of the 9833 it runs for about 380ish... but it has a much better screen.

The Alpine is a great piece. Another option would be an Eclipse... not sure of the model #. I've see one of those in action it was nice. $$$

I looked that one up too, but the best price I could find on that was about $420. Where have you seen it for $380? And the CVA1004 has dropped to $599.

ebay right now they are selling for around $360 with about 3 hrs left.

just saw this post now. go with ecipse, so much better than alpine. i know from experience with both. all i changed was the deck from alpine to eclipse and wow the sound was so much louder, cleaner, just a very noticable difference.

I was very much considering the Eclipse but I have no confidence in the local installer. I've had problems with them installing stuff in the past. I went with the Alpine 9835. I'll have pics up as soon as I have it installed.
