Ignition Cylinder

My key was stuck in the ignition, so I bought a new ignition cylinder. The new cylinder installs fine, but I can't get the key to turn far enough to start the car or far enough to remove the key. Any ideas?

This was all I can find to offer...

Mechanical Test

Test the steering column ignition system mechanical operation by rotating the lock cylinder/key through all switch positions. The movement should feel smooth with no sticking or binding. The ignition system should return from the START position back to the RUN position without assistance (spring return). If sticking or binding is encountered, check for the following:

  • Burrs on the lock cylinder key
  • Binding lock cylinder
  • Shroud rubbing against lock cylinder
  • Burrs or foreign material around the rack-and-pinion actuator in the lock cylinder housing
  • Insufficient lube on actuator
  • Binding ignition switch
NOTE:
Do not apply lubricant to inside of the ignition switch.

sounds like your actuator rod might be worn/broke.

cheap part,pia to replace.

many people have bought a used good steering column and just swapped the whole assembly out .

if you remove the lower shroud and go along the bottom of the column towards the dash you will come to the ignition control switch, you can remove the 2(or 4) screws there and atleast be able to start the car manually.

Is this a Gen 1 or Gen II. Gen II has it's own switch in the dash, not column.
