Installing aftermarket radio in '98 Mark VIII

For Xmas I bought the wife a nice Pioneer flip screen DVD/MP3/WMA player and I'm going to install it myself. Will I encounter any problems with the factory Bose crap?. I installed a stereo in my ex '95 without probs but that one didn't have the Bose stereo like hers does and hers requires a different harness. Any help appreciated.
 
nick its JBL lol, its not a GM !!! you can buy the harness you need to install it right at walmart, its plug and play very easy.
 
Yup, easy install. Get the harness like Jamie said and the mounting kit. Sound not take you long either and don't forget to post pics of the completed job.

Ok I called it Bose instead of JBL. You got me officer! Still, it wasn't all that impressive as far as sound goes. Sounds good for a factory 1998 stereo I suppose.

I couldn't find the harness anywhere. Walmart didn't have it. I ordered it from Advance Auto for $28!. Sucks too cause I still have the harness from the '95 Mark I had but that one didn't have the JBL stereo and it was different. Advance should have it in any day now.
 
$28 bucks holy rip off batman, the scosche kit at walmart is $12 bucks, come to think of it i have 2 of them in my tool box, i never thought to tell you that!!!!

:D Thats Occifer to you, haha. I will agree with you though...turn up the bass a bit and the sound turns to garbage. When I added a sub in the trunk with the stock system, I was actually impressed how well the Mids/Highs sounded with the sub supplying the bass. Not to mention, it looked stock so the crocks didn't even know.
 
Lol, ya, cuz the other word probably isn't politically correct here in Cali. Remember....they have more rights then us.
 
Eh, got the stereo done last week. Just a head unit, went with a Sony instead of the Pioneer. Anyway, sounds MUCH better. The stock speakers sound better with the Sony. I'm sticking a box w/3 MTX 10's in the trunk along with a MTX 800w amp. I've had this stuff laying around for years and figure now is a good time to stick it in the Mark. :cool:
 
i just sold a sealed box with 3 brand new ten inch mtx thunder 5000's for 70 bucks :( i dont know why i didnt just keep them for my mark.
 
no i still have my green 93 but i dont have the ambition to do anything to the stereo in it! i only use it to go back and forth to work.
