Intake, Exhaust, Chip Question

I have a 96 MarkVIII in excellent condition. I want to increase power/performance and exhaust system and sound(something deep). Not a mechanic and have done limited research. Research tells me increasing air in and exhaust system will help. Also considering a chip but do not want headaches. Need advice and suggested products.

RE: Intake, Exhaust, Chip Question

Chips are easy...go with Blue Oval - plug and play.

As for your other question, are you looking for more power, or a faster car? Because they are two different things. An intake swap will get you about 20 HP, but a posi unit with 4.10 gears will accelerate you faster than the intake swap...and their respective cost is in the same ball park.

I went the latter and installed an Eaton posi, 2800 stall Lonnie-converter, and 700+ HP tranny. Those and some suspension mods put my 0 to 60 under 6 seconds and shaves over half a second on the 1/4 mile.

If you're going for the best bang for your buck go-fast mods, it's more cost effective to get the power to the road rather than just make more power.

RE: Intake, Exhaust, Chip Question

Exhaust and Blue Oval chip is where I would start. Then follow up with gears and converter.

Edit... with a '96 you have OBD-II and can use the SCT Xcal2 programmer from Blue Oval Chips - even easier.
