What's this from? I was guessing driving in the rain but the motor is running ok despite the fact that I probibly have detonated a piston.

The air filter was also cleaned maybe 2 months ago and its still red (when I took it off 2 months ago there was no orange in the filter arm).

everything happens at once.... :frown:

I figured the title of the thread should be something like "wtf is this? Rust?" instead of asking if its bad. I know its obviously not good.

Wow, that doesn't look good man. Whats the climate like down there? Maybe you're pooling moisture after you've been driving awhile?

You should keep all this in one thread.

it's not like this is a "new mystery", this more than like result of your comprimised motor/cracked head/blown gasket...messed up AF.

Sounds to me that when you "thought" your AF was fine and the car ran 13.5 it really wasn't as fine as you thought/we lead to believe.

I know it Sucks.... I'm sorry

Get another one and chunk it in there, your not thinking about taking that one apart and fixing it are you?

It's far cheaper and faster to replace it, THEN.. feel free to rebuild/overbuild/ect.

When I ran the 13.5 was after the AF was fixed and i was measuring it while doing the run, so it was good then.

I know that this mostlikely gave me the pegged MAF. All of that junk got over the MAF because its everywhere in the tubing...

Does anyone know this brown/orange crap is so I can prevent it from happening again?

Lost cause here....we've been working on this guy for months. ;(

i'm guessing that was about me and thats how i'm feeling now... but i'd rather drop 700 or so on a used motor then a new car... Its just everything seems to have gone at the same time :frown:

+1 on both!

That was about you man, the first thing we told you was to get a used engine (I picked up a 97 w/47K for 700 bucks) and drop it in. That was like 5 months ago! (I know...over exagerating, haha)

Its time to cut your losses, bite the bullet, and get it done. I'm sure that when you tear the engine out, you'll figure out all your other issues at the same time.

That would be nice... I'm not concerned about more power I just want it to run good.

Could I run COP ignition with a gen 1 motor?

got it

got it

The junk that clogged the MAF and made it peg came from the breather tube that was attached from the valve cover to the air filter arm.

The only tube that didn't have the junk in it was the one from the throttle body that you can see from the pic. All of the other tubes I've sent out to be media blasted re-powdercoated and sealed (because the two near the ground have rust from a scrape).

And I'm still deciding whether or not to sell some of my junk and buy a rotating assembly and bolt the old heads back on or risk buying a used motor.
