Anyone else into Japanese Horror?

The Kid and I started watching it a while ago, and just love it.

I actually enjoy watching it subtitled, as opposed to dubbed.

These movies are very different than American made movies. They don't always make sense, but they really leave you thinking at the end.

Some of our favorites:

Battle Royale: In future Japan, the government capture a class of ninth-grade students and force them to kill each other under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act. It looks like this one is going to be remade with a release of next year, but it is a classic movie!

Ichi the Killer: Just a LOT of gore.

Of course the original Ring (Ringu) and Grudge (Ju-On).

Suicide Club: A detective is trying to find the cause of a string of suicides. Very different movie.

These movies aren't for everyone, but I really enjoy them. Additionally, I find they are interesting because of the cultural differences.

J horror --->>> I thought this related to someone on this board?! :D

I think my most favorite one was the Ju-On (Grudge) I have actually seen most of what you mentioned.... Still not exactly my cup of tea since I enjoy eye candy.

Lol Max.

I seen/own Battle Royal, it was pretty decent, but not really a horror movie. Have you seen the previews for that movie coming out with Stone Cold Steve Austin in it where a bunch of people get thrown on an island for some reason.....same exact thing, just american, haha.

OMG hahaha that movie looks terrible...

Yeah, Jesse, I heard about that. If that's supposed to be the remake - well blech. I mean, the important thing to me that makes that movie classic is taking those kids and making them make those adult decisions - and decisions no one should have to make. I loved the gore of it, but the stories of the kids is what really interested me.

Yeah...for sure Trix...it did take a second to get used to the subtitles though. I found myself rewinding a lot to see what they said, instead of watching someone get an axe to the head, haha.
