Lighting Control Module on 02 Conti

Hello all!!!

I traded off my Mark VIII on a Conti a few months ago and have a few problems to get ironed out on the Conti.

My car has started to flash the high beams at random times and it does not matter if it is day time, night time, car running, or sitting off with no keys in it. Sometimes it does this alot and sometimes it only does it once or twice then quits.

I have replaced the turning, wiper, high beam switch and it did not fix the problem. While I was reading the owners guide I found that this car has a computer that runs all the lights to the car(lighting control module). Is this right? Where is it located? Any info anybody can pass on would be welcome in a big way. Something about pulling up behind a car at a light and having the high beams start to flash bothers me.

Oh the car is a 02 with 45K

The LCM IS the light switch. The manual does not mention "flashing high beams." But it does tell you to check for a loose connection on the light switch/LCM.

It also mentions a bunch of codes. Have you pull any codes????

No I have not pulled any codes and I do not have any warning lights going off in the car. Everything is working like it should when I use it, just the high beam lights that flash. Right now I just pulled the high beam fuse to make it quit and until I can find the fix.

One other problem I have is when I am picking up speed from a light with the gas pedal 1/4 to 1/2 halfway down the car starts to "surge" lightly when I get in the 40 to 60 mph range. It does not do this when I put to the floor. Could you tell me what it might be? And what kind of repair book do you have, sounds like a good one.

Thanks a bunch!!!!

Surge slightly? Missing a little maybe? You might want to change your plugs, if you do not have a mileage history on them. If not missing, how's the trans-axle fluid? You might consider replacing the trans-axle fluid with new Mercon V. The BOOK says you should pump it out.

As for the BOOK, I use OEM Shop manuals for the cars I own you can purchase from Helms. If you are going to do your own car wrenching, that's the way to go.

It is a very light surge. It does not feel like a miss. The car has 45K on it and I would think it would not need plugs yet as they are supposed to go to 100K ( at least the ones in my mark did ). The fluid is at the right level and I was planning to change it shortly, so the BOOK is stating not to change the filter? That's odd to me.

Thanks for the info so far!!!

I looked in the BOOK and noted that replacing the filter is not listed as an "in car" maintenance item! The Owner's Manual is not available at this time. I'll look in there and see what it says about the tranny filter.

HOTLNC here is an update and a FYI for you. The LCM for this car costs $770. Looks like I'll be hitting the yards for a price.

Thanks for the info.
