The Lincoln Motor Car Foundation is pleased to announce that a date has been set for the dedication of its new Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum. The all-new, 15,000 square foot, clear span building, situated on a prominent corner within the Gilmore Car Museum’s 90-acre campus in Hickory Corners, Michigan, will be dedicated on Saturday, August 9. The public is welcome and invited to the dedication ceremony. The Gilmore Museum (www.GilmoreCarMuseum.org ), now open year round, already hosts more than 80,000 visitors each year and it is expected that the new Lincoln Museum will add to that draw.

Even though the museum building is new it recalls an important chapter from Lincoln’s past. The new museum building has been constructed in the theme of the historic P.J. Platte Lincoln dealership. The Platte dealership was located at 3700 East Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, Michigan, a prominent and prestigious location. Likewise, the new Lincoln Museum is located on a prominent corner of the Gilmore Museum’s re-created “Dealership Row.”

In addition to the great cars and memorabilia on display another must-see at the new museum will be the “Lincoln Stones.”These are the large engraved limestone panels that spell out the word Lincoln in a big way. Previously they were located above the main entrance door of the Lincoln Administration building in Detroit. They were recovered by the Lincoln Motor Car Foundation and have been displayed at the Gilmore Car Museum since 2006.

The museum’s dedication will form the cornerstone of the Lincoln Homecoming Weekend. More than 500 Lincoln owners and enthusiasts, many bringing historic Lincolns of all ages, are expected to converge on Western Michigan from Wednesday, August 6 through Sunday, August 10. In addition to proudly showing their vehicles and participating in the museum dedication they will also enjoy driving tours, other museum tours, and two banquets as well as exploring the rest of the Gilmore Museum’s other dealerships and historic buildings, where more than 350 classic and collector cars are displayed.

The new museum’s realization has been made possible by a coalition of the four major Lincoln affinity cars clubs in America. They have united under the banner of the Lincoln Motor Car Foundation and combined their strengths to create one common location where all aspects of Lincoln’s illustrious motor car heritage can be displayed.
