well Im getting closer to completeing the engine build for my Mark VIII <-- (not a typo) it is a normally asperated 302 stroked to 347 with a .040 over bore I guess that makes it a 349 cu in I dont want to bore you with a parts list but I will say that the calculated horse power should be around 420+ with out having to run some type of compressor power adder it will be backed by a modifyed c4 trans now you may ask your self why on earth would someone remove a 4.6 DOHC engine and try and mount an engine that dosent belong? and you may ask if you really must do this why not a mark VII ? well the answer to the first question is I have enjoyed my mark VIII but I dont want to upset anyone but the trans just keeps on breaking and it cost a lot to fix and with out going into a lot of detail a lot of things seem to break and cost a bundle to fix so I got to thinking that I would replace the engine with a push rod engine the 302/349 sounds great has gobs of low end torque 349 inches of displacmet and is dimensionaly smaller than the DOHC and with aluminum heads and intake the 302/349 weighs about 425 lbs and has lots of room for headers the c4 trans is light weight and can hande the power.
I could quote specs all night but lets face it we all have these cars because we lke the way they look and ride and as great as mustangs and camaros are there are way to many of them . its all about how it makes you feel and I think that a pushrod motor will give the mark more of a hot rod feel second question why not a mark VII ? well umm lets just say that they arnt as nice looking as the Mark VIII
well I opened the hood and was going to start removing the 4.6 and I know that the prefered method is out the bottom but I just dont have the equipment required to drop it out the bottom and to tell you the truth even though I have read about doing this till my eyes bled I still cant picture doing it safely by my self so do any of you have any tips for removing the engine from the top?
thanks for listening to my rantings Please dont hate me for using a different driveline the mark VIII is great but I think mechanical things should be as simple as possible but still be able to do the job
