Hello, this is my first post and a bad day for me. I had my 2nd 3.9 2000 engine fail on me. It sounds like a ticking banging noise and the engine doesnt sound good but runs. I am going to check the timing but think its unlikly it would have skipped. It has 168,000 on the engine. I love this car and dont want to get rid of it. I have heard the 2000 engines have issues. I was wondering what is needed for a engine swap for a diffenerent year? I read the 02 is a good engine but found havent found good information in the time frame I have to fix my car. If anyone could help It would be much appreciated. It has a new transmission already so maybe I will be lucky enough that an 02 or 03-06 engine bolts up to the transmission and wire plugs connect up? Lucky enough maybe that all the power options work with a diferent wirring harness?

Basically, just use the 02 Engine but swap on ALL your electronic sensors and stuff from your 00 engine. Should just swap right over. As long as you just swap the mechanical portion of the engine, everything else will be the same.

Thank you much for a quick reply. Is the 02 the best choice for good years of engines? Or would it be better to find an 03-06 engine? The 03-06 are more common, cheaper, and have less miles. It would be hard to go back to driving my dodge neon..

You'll have to find out if they are interchangeable. The best place to find out would be the auto dismantlers, they will know (for the most part) which ones will fit. I would assume the newer the better, but you never know, the car is made by Jaguar, lol.
