LS vs Marauder

Here's the deal...

I'll probably be looking to replace the wife's 2000 Sable this year. Stopping at the local FLM dealer a while back a '02 LS V8 caught my eye. Now being the Lincolnholic I am, I was interested, even with the $20K plus sticker for 20K plus miles on the clock.

Not being an impulse buyer, I studied the options available to me and found myself looking for a Marauder as well. I confess I have an infatuation with the Mercury on steroids. Now it seems for about the same money I can get a nice Marauder for, you can also get a nice LS.

Now other than being 4 door, I know they are like apples and oranges, bit I wondered if anyone had thoughts on the two contenders and if anyone else ever found themselves with these two cars on their short list. ::roll::

RE: LS vs Marauder

Get the marauder. When it comes time to fix it it should be easier to work on and the parts are probably cheaper.

RE: LS vs Marauder

Thinking long term, I think the Marauder would be the more logical choice to fit. The platform is known for longevity and yes, the eventual repairs would be easier and parts much more available IMHO. A four-door wannabe Mark VIII in Gran Marquis disquise maybe?

Now looking ahead a few years after it serves as a daily driver it could certainly and easily follow the path of one of its predecessors, the '93 Mark VIII, with mods and upgrades. :9

I'm really not familar with the LS but I can't see the same future for it.

RE: LS vs Marauder

If you want more interior room and trunk space go with the Marauder.

RE: LS vs Marauder

get the Marauder! I went to the car show here in Cleveland yesterday, and had a good look at the LS and I could not believe how cheap the interior was!!! It was pathetic! It was not a wood grain dash it was the new graphite color stuff which is fine if you like that, but the switches and controls along with the console and gauges just left alot to be desired. Plus the Marauder is cooler!!! :7

And if you want to go faster, [link:www.reinhartautomotive.com/|Dennis] can help you out if you like.

I'd go to Alternative Auto, myself. www.alternativeauto.com

Lidio gave us a wild ride in his supercharged marauder (which will do a 1.6 60' on "street" tires, weighting 4400 lbs) when Jeremi and I had him tune our cars.

RE: LS vs Marauder

Driller, you know I see, work on, and drive these cars on a daily basis. Let me give you my opinion:

MARAUDER! MARAUDER! MARAUDER!

It's a tried and true platform, it's built for longevity, it goes like stink, and everything about it just feels tougher and stronger than an LS. You know you're driving American Muscle!

The LS is designed for a totally different demographic. It feels like the Jag it is and just seems to be more for the Armani-suited ballet and opera aficionado.
It's also the most electronically complex (much of it new technology unique to LS) vehicle Ford makes. Most of our LS customers find this attractive, but both you and I are old school. We know complex systems equal expensive repairs.

The Marauder isn't necessarily better; it's just what I would pick, given the choice between those two.

BTW: Why not a Town Car? Now there's a beautiful piece of machinery.

[/div]Well Lidio doesn't sponsor a forum here [link:www.lincolnsclub.org/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=25|like Dennis does] and we all know what Dennis can do with the Marauders & Marks. [link:www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16286|Not Bad]

RE: LS vs Marauder

All i know about Dennis is word of mouth and not all of it is good.

I've seen Lidio work, i've seen his cars run, and i've seen the workmanship in his shop. I'm more comfortable sending someone to Lidio than to Dennis. Lidio does his own tuning (unlike Dennis) and has built just as many very, very fast cars as Dennis. Also, i have not heard allegations that Lidio sold F150 MAFs as Lightning MAFs or misrepresented the transmissions he sold.

The hunt is on... MARAUDER! }(

BTW, IMHO the Town Car is nice, but just doesn't 'fit' for some reason.
