More annoying problems with the Vicky :(

So... The Crown Vic is now at 150k miles... it has been a trooper but it's days seem become more and more numbered.

The current problems are as follows...

1. The car makes an insanely annoying creaking sound whenever you turn the wheel... the noise is on the driver side... I am thinking it is a tie rod... because it certainly doesn't sound like a pump... the sound is kind of like people are dragging very sharp metal objects against a blackboard... or an old creaking metal door. Ughhh.

2. The front brakes started making a lot of noise... When I checked them out I noticed that the front right original rotor became very worn and one of front right pads was at 5% or less. The other side was at 30-35%. There were 150k miles on the rotors and 75k miles on the pads.

So I changed the pads and rotors to new semi-metallic pads and brembos. I then proceeded to break them in according to the correct procedure 10 30-5 stops blah blah. No issues for 2 weeks, then after a road trip they started to squeek like a frigging train... they still stop great etc... I just don't get what is making that high pitched noise...

Should I lube up the back of the pads? and the caliper pins? I haven't done that?!

That creaking sound is the ball joints. That's exactly what mine did on the old 97 Merc G.M. I understand that noise is a dead give-away for ball joints.

Ball joints?

1. Support the vehicle in normal driving position with both ball joints loaded.
2. Have an assistant grasp the lower edge of tire and move the wheel in and out.
3. Observe lower end of the front wheel spindle and the front suspension lower arm while wheel is being moved. Any movement between the front wheel spindle and the front suspension lower arm indicates abnormal wear.
4. If any such movement is observed, replace front suspension lower arm.

Hmm I would think that this would make a popping noise as opposed to a consitent squeel with the steering wheel.

I have new problems that were added...

Coolant leak under the intake manifold.
Oil leak ... not the oil pan.. between the TC and engine ... end seal?

OK so... I replaced the intake manifold... you guys should have seen the valley of the engine... it was cooked on coolant/crud combo that surely could be mistaken for oil... it was draining out the back making it look like a rear end seal :D So I am a happy camper no more nasty leaks underneith the car and no more coolant leaks!!

After a few hick-ups due to some coolant getting into the spark plug holes :( the car is now ok!

Next on the list is trying to tackle that nasty sound when the wheel is turned to the left...
