MSD spark plug wires.

8.5 MM super conductor wires are the ones to go with correct? Just making sure which set to get because I seen the 96' Cobra (4.6L DOHC) had a different part number.

jon part number 32219. I just ordered a set from summit racing this morning. $82.00

RE: MSD spark plug wires.

Ok, Great. Thanks a ton. I also am buying the MSD coil packs along with the wires. Which are the best spark plugs to get? I heard about Autolite's. Any help on this would be appreciated also.( I know to gap the plugs at .048)

RE: MSD spark plug wires.

Autolite 764 seems to be the general consensus as to the best.

RE: MSD spark plug wires.

I ran Autolite 764 C (coppers) in my 750HP ProCharged Cobra.

And I'm running Autolite 764 Cs in my Mark VIII. If that gives you a clue.

MSD is geat the street cars. The measured resistance vs. stock wires is very low (stock=8,000-20,000 ohms, MSD=50-400 ohms). Less resistance = more wattage (more power) required to "jump the gap" (or overcome the resistance of the gap). We run MSD wires and coils on a 98 Cobra putting down 530rwhp.

My Cobra's wires? I went with a StreetWires setup with Demon coil packs. After that adventure, the MSD coils aren't any different then I can tell. The wires are though.

Fyi, I ran the STOCK coils and STOCK wires on my stock Cobra with 22psi of boost for about 15k miles (oil ring finally broke, started eating oil, still ran great though). And the part number of the Mark VIII coils match the Cobra coils.

Technically, the stock coils are just fine with some good wires.

Oh and I ran a gap of 0.055" on the Cobra, and am running that gap on my Mark8 (with Navi cams).

RE: MSD spark plug wires.

I appreciate the help duncan. Great info. I was thinking of running the Demon coil packs and wires, but the money is sort of a factor. I have decided to just run the stock coil packs for now and buy some MSD wires. I'll most likely go with the Autolite 764's; they seem to be the popular choice. I really appreciate the help.

RE: MSD spark plug wires.

Slight correction to a statement I made above (I was typing too fast):

Less resistance = more wattage (more power) required to "jump the gap" (or overcome the resistance of the gap).

I meant, "Less resistance = less wattage (less power) required to 'jump the gap' (or overcome the resistance of the gap)." In other words, running a good set of wires won't make the coil packs work as hard (building a high magnetic field for voltage). Lower voltage will jump the gap, therefore the stock coils would be just fine.
