Need feedback from california members with custom exhausts.

I'm wondering who of you residing in "great state" of California has switched their stock Mark VIII exhaust systems to a true dual exhaust WITHOUT the 3rd cat.
If you have done that, have you passed emissions testing? If you did how far away were you from the maximum allowable emissions standards since they have lowered the limits.
I want to upgrade my exhaust but since I’m uncertain of the consequences of this here in california. I've heard a horror story of someone who was slapped with a $1000 fine etc etc. But I really don't think SMOG technicians are going to recognize the fact that the 3rd cat is missing since they have barely seen Mark 8s and it doesn't throw a CE light as well as the fact that there are two more cats on the car.
Any input is welcome.

I've been wondering about the same question?

Also, lets say I were to installed LTH, and still had the 3 stock cats and mufflers(I would never do that). The emmissions should be the same with LTH or the stock manifolds, Right???
It doesn't make sense to me that just LTH would change the emmissions since there aren't any chemical changes going on through the tubes.

Am I missing something??

LTH would improve flow OUT of the engine hence emissions would rise. besides that they would make the car loud!

Well i'm bypassing the 3rd cat with cutouts and I passed smog. The dude just looked underneath my car by the mufflers and no where else. Of course I had the cutouts closed...
