Need tech name of chat .exe

I'm trying to prevent some of my people from utilizing/downloading chat or game sites while at work. I also want to prevent them from downloading ANYTHING onto their PC from the internet due to pop-ups and browser hijackers. I'm trying to accomplish this using Group Policy, but one of the things I have to do is to list the exact name of the executables on the chat software. Does anybody have a list of these or a place to get that? (Other than downloading them all?)

Or a better idea? I don't want to totally block their internet privilages, just prevent them from downloading toolbars, yahoo stuff, chatting software, games, etc. They share machines and I'm tired of having to rebuid a machine every so often due to them being poluted with garbage.

Thanks!

There are a number of programs that you can use to restrict what sites they visit. Websense is one, smartfilter is another. I've run into both of those at work. They won't let me visit certain message boards because they're deemed "chat".

Also, if you're running Windows 2000 or XP, you can not give them administrator priveleges, and thus restrict them from installing almost anything.

I'm running XP. These people do not have admin rights and can still load chat software, toolbars, etc. Plenty of stuff to cause me grief! They can't install updates or regular software or drivers.

There is also software that tracks where people have gone on the web, what time, and all that. We use it at work. Plus, if you let people know their computers are being spied on with this software, which includes email, that fear will prevent some of this stuff as well.

I had the same problem with my girlfriend's computer, every so often it would get crammed up with spyware that made the computer virtually unusable. The simple solution for me was to install Linux in favor of Windows. I'm using Fedora Core 2. It was free and has been working great for the last 2-3 months.

This is for the network at work. I can't change operating systems. Monitoring their traffic will cause a lot of extra work for me, and I would prefer that only as a last resort. I run the network by myself and can't keep up as it is! Plus, at this time I don't have the money to actually purchase the software.

I got to see an evaluation version of some of that software when a cohort used it to watch what one IT employee was doing all day, since he did no work, and got to see him surf porn and chat at porn chat sites. It was great software! We could see everywhere he went, got his passwords, (he would password important files and then refuse to share the passwords) and see everything he wrote and viewed. I'd like to buy the software, but not for this chat issue.

What I'd really like to do is to master Group Policy.
