Hi all,
Just went to all of the electronic store in my area. i want the cda 9813 by alpine installed. I have no idea how to do it my self so I was planning to go with their "free" install. Come to find out that circut city wants 150 for labor alone. I went to best buy and they said they could do it for free because they would not bypass the factory amp. went back tocircuit city and they called me an idiot for listening to best buy. I then went to a local store called ovations that carries only the highest end audio equipment. the guy starts the install and says that the harness will not work and I will have no fade controls,BUT for an extra Benjamin he will install new speaker wire from each speaker to the new head unit. Which D@#n store is telling me the truth???

RE: New Head unit probs

Hey bud,

Im a supervisor of a car audio install bay at best buy, the unit can be installed without bypassing the factory amp and will still work just fine, If you desire to not use the factory amp witch is specially made to match the speakers then there is an amp bypass harness, however that does not work as well as using the Aftermarket head unit in conjunction with the facotry amp. Ill get the part numbers needed for install and you should be able to do it yourself in 20 minutes. Dont waste your money

RE: New Head unit probs

I had an Alpine CDA-9811 installed in my 94 Mark VIII did not bypass factory amp. The installer put an adapter plug to go from the Alpine to the factory wire harness it about 25 minutes total.

also it is a 97 mk 8 with the jbl sound system. I am looking to get the best possible sound out of this unit no matter if i have to bypass the amp or not. What would get a better sound in your oponion??? Thanks a lot

RE: New Head unit probs

Hey, I have a Pioneer Premeir 6400 deck that I installed my self, and that I didn't bypass the amp on. Its simple as cake, and walmart sells the wiring kit for like $10 and the mounting kit for about the same. Watch out for "Best" Buy. My friend just got a Pioneer installed in his Mustang (I wasn't professional enough), and they charged him $50+ for "materials". After he was not satisfied, I took it apart and found they charged him and installed those damned "Bass Blockers".

RE: New Head unit probs

I had a Kenwood deck installed in my 96LSC at Circuit City with no bypass. I guess it depends what day of the week it is.

RE: New Head unit probs

There are also 2 wiring kits that I have seen. One is $35+ and is a Speaker Level-Line level converter. It would be a box with level controls on it. The other is like the one I have ($10), that just hooks to the speaker outputs, and connects right to the car plugs.
