Noticed something weird

I don't know if this is normal or not, but I was sitting at a light, and turned on the interior lights on, and it activated my door locks.
Is it supposed to do this?

I don't think so. Aren't the doors locking when you drive away from starting it?

Yes, thats normal and in the manual. Its weird. I've never heard a good explanation as to why. Actually its suppose to do it when you turn the lights back off.

Well, yes the doors do lock when I drive away. When I switched the lights, I heard the locks click (even though they were already locked). I unlocked the doors while the car was stopped but still in drive, and switching the lights locked them.
It probably was when I turned them back off, I don't remember, I was half awake and on my way to work.

You can turn off that auto lock feature using the keyless entry keypad. I forgot the actual code but it's in the owners manual.

My red Mark has it on, but my green Mark has it off. One of these days, I'll turn the red one off.:D

I would bet that turning off the autolocks wouldn't stop the doors from locking when turn off the interior lights though. I'm guessing that because my 96 Cougar doesn't have the autolock feature but still locks the doors when turning off the interior lights.

I just tried it with my green Mark. Turning off the light doesn't lock the doors. It does with the red Mark though.

Interesting. I wonder if I'm just "thinking" the Cougar does it and maybe it's the Mark that does.

Anyone have any idea why they did tie the door locks to the interior lights?

I didn't know you could turn off the auto locks. I turned them off in the Exlporer because my wife hated them. The light switch doesn't lock the doors on the Explorer, but I bet that is because of the auto locks being off.
I can't think of a good reason for the 2 to work together. Maybe they think using the interior light attracts carjackers.

I wonder if it does it when the interior light comes on as default if the door pins are bad on the anti-theft. i am not sure if mine does it but i know my interior light works with the drivers door but the anti theft light does not. passengerside is the fine. i am still learning about the marks but if when you hit the keylss entry the inside lights come on and the lock activate. well they are a partly connect some how what is ans isolator, dioade or what ever keeps them from interferring The same as when you install an alarm which is basiclly what it is. with one another is burn out. just a thought out side of the box. i could be crazy

The module that controlled the locks really sucks from ford. My mothers 98 expedition locks whenever it feels like it. You might drive 50 miles before it locks the doors and turns of the enterer lights and the part is expensive

My 1986 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, which had a keyless entry system and that same auto-locking scheme, would lock the doors if you turned the interior lights on and then off. I am going to guess that it is in the programming from way back.

I am thinking that the module just sees the light go on and off, whether its the door or light switch on the dash, and locks the doors. Probably just all tied in together.
