I say, install the cheaper one wrapped with thermal insulation. Close the hood and drive it!

I like polished look. If it dulls and becomes ugly then I would say a powder coat might hold up better then spray paint. It is not that hard to make them look polished, as long as you have a glass beader. The glass beader makes aluminum look brand new.

I like the black... looks more sleeperish. Chrome is cool if you keep it clean, but as you describe it, it might not quite be up to show chrome shine.

The powerdercoating idea was interesting, but with a white car, what would you powerdercoat it?
