Really Loud Steering

My car has recently started to make a horrific noise under the front end drivers side. Sounds like a door squeaking sound but its really loud. But I cant seem to pinpoint the sounds location. It only makes the sound when im turning. Anyone know what this might be?

As mentioned, could be the pump, ball joints, etc. I will throw this out too: There is a "boot" that seals the rack against the steering shaft. Mine dried out and caused the steering to not want to center. Its also made a sound that traveled up the shaft and sounded like the clock spring was all bound up. I accidentally found the sound when I looked over the customer shaft I have, I thought it was something else.

I looked at it and... well.... Its a ball joint. -.- Im surprised I made it home, Its about to pop out. Passenger side is looking good. I dont have a press :( So im going to buy the lower control arm with the ball joint in it. Could this cause my steering to stick too? Thats been happening lately, maybe this will fix it, if not ill look in to what you said unity.

the whole arm is the way to go. i don't know why anyone bothers just replacing the joint....especially if they look as bad as my arms did.

ditto

Replace arm, as always get one for a TRW brand T-Bird. Save some $$.
I keep reading that the T-Bird arms are cheaper, but the ones I bought were listed as Mark VIII arms, and they cost me about $56 each, from Advance Auto Parts......

Frank-- you did the right thing, as the last time I bought the TRW units they actually had a chaper price than the T-Bird. One suggestion I would make is that you consider replacing the Strut Rod bushings, the Sway Bar links, and the Upper Control Arms.

Especially the Bushings as you have to remove the Lower Control Arms to replace them.
Don't forget you will also need a wheel alignment as well, but you will really be impressed how nice the steering is after all the old junk is replaced

I replaced my lower one today. It had perfect alignment since i bought it. I make marks on the metal with a flathead and took it all apart. Replaced the whole control arm / ball joint. And I GOT THE ALIGNMENT PERFECT FIRST TRY!!!! *Pats self on back*. Even though this is my 3rd one ive done!

mine goes on the lift tomorrow after work. got some little noise under there.
not sure what it is yet, all 4 ball joints, strut rod bushings at the control arm, and 1 side sway bar link are less than a year old. I am also going to retorque the subframe bolts....I had them out last month when I replaced my oil pan.
i know my rack needs replacing too...stupid A1/Cardone crap.
