Repair air motor?

Is this possible? I have the motor pump out and was considering rebuilding the motor. I am good with little electric motors, but have't done one of these. Is there anything to worry about? Any problems to consider before doing it? Thanks . I just found this site and I am glad I did.

Honestly.....I don't think its ever been attempted. :D If you do it, take lots of pictures, and where safety glasses, there has got to be a spring in there somewhere.

Well, I did it. At least I have it apart and figured it out. It is a lot more simple than some of the other pump motors I have re built. I will post photos later. But all it is to it is a simple piston and cylinder. The electric motor has the brushes near the base plate so re assemble will be a piece of cake. The armature is fine and so are the brushes. There is some corrosion in the magnet housing, and one magnet was loose. Then the piston / cylinder goes out to the side, and it was stuck completly. There was the problem. There was corosion in the valve also. The rings on the piston are stuck also. So I am soaking it with a little WD 40 and will clean it up before re assemble. There is an o ring at the top of the cyl. where it connects to the valve. I think it needs replaced. I bet a standard orange o ring will work if I can find the right size. I have a few industrial suply houses near here and I will try them.

How do we post photos?

Oh BTW, the magnet can be re glued with a dab of epoxy. I will just shim it in place, and glue it in.I can see why the drier unit is so important. ANY WATER or moisture will reak havok in there. My car sat for a few weeks, and it wouldn't run ( the air motor) But I think I may have another problem. Before it was parked ( I am going thru a divorce and well.... ) it would let the entire car down sometimes. Not all the time. The air bags were replaced, less than 2 yrs ago. What else may be wrong? Would it be only the pump? Or what else will do that?

The air dryer is likely saturated.

If pics are hosted online somewhere, you may post them with IMG and /IMG tags.

Yes, I thought the drier wasa problem. What else may be giving me trouble with the whole car lowering?
BTW the pics are not hosted so I will have to do that. Thanks. Some forums will host, some don't. Just didn't know how it is here. Thanks

You can also use sites like photobucket.com I would be very interested to see pics of your work.

It's looking like new compressor time. I am about to test it soon, but I am not optimistic. There are plastic seals around the piston. And they are a PITA to get in. I will let you all know.
