Replacing a 390 with a 5.4?

Hello there!

For an older project car( '61 Thunderbird!), I would like to replace the original 390 and transmission with a 5.4 (3 valve) and a modern transmission.

I'm wondering if anyone knows any good sources of information for such things? 'Cuz I seem to be having a hard time getting any worthwhile information.

Also, I'm fairly clueless as to Ford's modern transmissions. Anything after the AOD is pretty much unknown to me.
