Ring and pinion question...what was available?

I just need to know what ring and pinion gear ratio's were available in our cars from the factory. I'm pretty sure it's just 3.08 and 3.27, but I just wanted to double check....in case there was a super-secret option to order a Mark VIII with 4.10's....because that would help me out in 2 weeks drasticly for the class I could be in at the Auto-X.}(

RE: Ring and pinion question...what was available?

what about the factory supercharged car that LMS has, the tasca supermark? did that have anything steeper than 3.27?

Red Box Rebel ':)

I beleive that the base came with the 3.08 and the LSC came with the 3.27. FOMOCO did not offer anything else for the Mark VIII. When I worked as a parts guy for Ford, we would not accept Dealer orders for rear end parts without the Dealer providing the calibration code. That kept us honest with the Feds who were, and still are strict about enforcing Clean Air Regs.

Two gear choices only, high and higher! ;(

RE: Ring and pinion question...what was available?

Ok, i was hoping that maybe by some stroke of luck there was some super secret option to get 4.10's in a '98....which would allow me to run in the stock class at the auto-x on Sunday...but I figured there wasn't. Oh well, I'll just keep running in their special interest group 'til I get the chance to go through my suspension and actually keep up with some of the faster cars (was really only 10-12 seconds behind some of the fastest ones out there).

RE: Ring and pinion question...what was available?

The Tasca Mark was equipped 3.55s with trac-lok.

The Bonneville Mark had a 2.47 axle.

Base models had 3.08 gears and the LSC models were 3.27 gears.

According to the manual...

Look on the Vehicle Certification label for the axle code.

A7 = 3.07
34 = 3.27

Are you "sure" the gears will push you out of the stock class?

I dont think you'll be considered cheating if you ran a different gear ratio. It's not going to make THAT much of a difference in your times.

For instance..
My 373'd 95 and Mikes 373'd 93 and Tiff's 308'd 93 all ran within .5 on the auto x track.

We all ran in a modified class and wound up finishing 1st 2nd and 4th!
It was v-8 modified rear wheel drive.

We ran against a small block v-8 corvette and we put him in third place only .05 in front of Tiffany.

..Poor guy was not real happy!
hahah

I think you'll be fine.. just go sign up and RACE.
